Come early to walk around the shelter and possible meet your new best friend!Shelter Me: Soul Awakened" is hosted by John Legend and features a program from Paws for Life K9 Rescue where incarcerated men train overlooked shelter dogs to help them get adopted and prepare other dogs to become service animals for veterans with PTSD. This gives the men purpose, teaches them life lessons and provides skills for them to thrive on the outside. This program is one of the most successful in the country in terms of commuting life sentences and, remarkably, has a zero recidivism rate. This show also includes former California Governor Jerry Brown discussing criminal justice reform. These hopeful stories show the power of redemption and second chances. The episode also includes music by John Legend and Common.This event is part of our month long Pet-Chella at the North Central Animal Shelter.
