LA Animal Services Offers Waived and Reduced Adoption Fees to Help Pets in Shelters Find Loving Homes
06/05/2025
LOS ANGELES, June 5, 2025 – There are more than 1,500+ animals in the six LA City shelters who need to find loving homes, including 935 dogs, 567 cats, and 72 rabbits and other small pets. With our shelters operating at over capacity, LA Animal Services is calling on the community to adopt or foster a furry friend as we offer fee-waived and reduced adoption fees for dogs and cats during every weekend in June:
Fee-waived Adoptions
- June 7: CA Adopt a Pet Day - LA Animal Services joins CalAnimals, ASPCA, and shelters across the state in a statewide pet adoption day. Adoption fees for dogs* and cats will be waived thanks to the ASPCA.
- June 8: Fee-waived Sunday - LA Animal Services extends fee-waived adoptions for canine buddies* and feline friends thanks to a grant from Petco Love
*Waived adoption fees for dogs 4 months and older, do not include a $20 license fee for LA City residents.
Reduced Adoption Fees
- June 14-15: Celebrate Father’s Day with a New Furry Friend
- June 21-22: The Pet Care Foundation’s Basic Black Adoption Weekend
- June 28-29: Summer Lovin’ Adoption Weekend
Reduced adoption fees for dogs, $51 (that does not include a $20 license fee for LA City residents); puppies $75; cats $12.50; and kittens $25.
"We work closely and rely on the community, which includes our New Hope Partners, fosters, and volunteers to help get the animals in our shelters out,” said Annette Ramirez, Interim General Manager for LA Animal Services. “We’re asking the community to adopt or foster to relieve the overcrowding we are experiencing, due to an increase in owner surrenders, as well as stray and injured animals coming in with nowhere else to go, which add to the animals already in our shelters – including some dogs, like Logan and Naboo, who have been waiting months, and in some cases, more than a year to find loving homes.”
Pets adopted from LA Animal Services are already spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped when they join their new families. Adopters also receive a Petco flyer with discounts to help make their pet adoption a success and a VCA Healthy Start Certificate, which provides up to $250 of follow-up veterinary care within the first 14 days of adoption. Additionally, dogs are eligible for free dog training classes with Paws for Life K9 Rescue at their People & Pet Innovation Center in Mission Hills, CA. If you can't adopt, consider fostering a pet.
When you foster a canine buddy or feline friend, you are not just saving the life of that animal, but also freeing up a space for another dog or cat in need.
