LA Animal Services and The Pet Care Foundation Host Basic Black Adoption Event
07/14/2023

Los Angeles, July 14, 2023 –  The Paula Kent Meehan Pet Care Foundation will sponsor the Basic Black adoption event happening at our six LA Animal Services Centers on Saturday, July 15 and Sunday, July 16. During the Basic Black weekend, the adoption fees for dogs with primarily black fur will be reduced by $50, which does not include the $20 dog license fee for LA City residents. Adoption fees for cats and kittens will be waived by the Paula Kent Meehan Pet Care Foundation.

“As we work toward creating the most humane city in the nation, ensuring access to the transformational relationships that living with pets can provide is an important step we can take because of the generous support of The Pet Care Foundation who sponsors these adoption events," said Staycee Dains, General Manager for LA Animal Services.

“We hope this adoption event encourages people to adopt and give these dogs and cats who are often overlooked a second chance at life with new families,” said Bill Crowe, Director of The Paula Kent Meehan Pet Care Foundation.

Dogs and cats adopted from LA Animal Services join their new families already spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and licensed. Pet adopters also will receive a Petco flyer with discounts to help make their pet adoption a success; and a VCA Healthy Start Certificate, which provides up to $250 of follow up veterinary care within the first 14 days of adoption.

In addition, canine companions adopted from LA Animal Services are also eligible for free dog training classes at the Paws for Life K9 Rescue People & Pet Innovation Center in Mission Hills, CA. Contact Info@pawsforlifek9.org for more details. You can view the wonderful dogs, cats, rabbits, and pocket pets who are available for adoption by going to laanimalservices.com/adopt.

Options to Surrendering a Pet

Please reconsider surrendering your pet to a shelter as our six shelters continue to operate at critical capacity. LA Animal Services offers alternative solutions to help keep pets and families together, that include Safety Net Foster, Home to Home, Pet Food Pantry, and helpful resource guides.

We also work closely with intervention groups who will provide assistance with pet retention. If relinquishing your pet is the only option, appointments are required by calling 888-452-7381. Sick or injured animals will be admitted without an appointment.
