Microchips Get Lost Pets Home!

LA Animal Services Recommends Pet Owners Keep Microchip Contact Info Up-to-Date

Los Angeles, August 7, 2020 — Los Angeles, August 19, 2020 – Pet owners often buy their furry family member a collar with a name tag with home phone number. Too often these collars and tags fall off and get lost. A microchip will permanently identify your pet. If your pet gets lost and has a microchip, and your address and phone number are current with the microchip company, a simple scan will have them on their way home to you. At LA Animal Services, all dogs, cats, and bunnies are microchipped when they are adopted.

“When you adopt from LA Animal Services, pet owners receive paperwork showing your pet’s microchip number and the contact information for the microchip company,” said Brenda Barnette, LA Animal Services General Manager. “We recommend keeping that paperwork with you or in a special pet folder so that if you move, you may contact the chip’s manufacturer and update your contact information.”

A city dog tag shows that your pet is licensed and current on their Rabies Vaccination. Add a microchip and your pet has the best protection to get home safely if they gets lost. Ensuring your pet is wearing a collar that has a current license, along with an ID tag and a microchip that is registered with your most current contact information and phone number – like your mobile number – will help reunite you with your companion animal.

A Microchip Happy Tail

Leela was a family dog, who got lost from her owner, Nestor. Throughout the years as Nestor moved, he made sure to update his address and phone number with Leela’s microchip company because he never gave up on getting Leela back.
On Monday, August 10, 2020, after five years of being separated, Nestor and Leela were reunited at the East Valley Animal Services, thanks to Leela’s microchip, and Nestor’s diligence to update his contact information.
If you are interested in having your pet microchipped, please contact LA Animal Services, which offers microchips for your dogs, cats, and rabbits for $15. For more information, please click here , or to schedule an appointment to have your pet microchipped, please call 888-452-7381.
