YOU Can Help Create Life Saving Space in LA City Shelters Ahead of the 4th of July

Los Angeles, June 24, 2023 – June is National Foster a Pet Month, and with the 4th of July holiday quickly approaching, LA Animal Services is encouraging Angelenos to open their hearts and homes and foster a pet as we kick-off Four Days for Life. Four days allows shelters to contact owners and reunite lost pets with their families. Pet fostering is life saving and critical for animal shelters particularly during the busy summer season.

“Fostering is a vital part of our life saving mission because it gives pets a much-needed break from kennel life while creating life saving space for animals who have nowhere else to go,” said Annette Ramirez, Interim General Manager for LA Animal Services, “With June being National Foster a Pet Month, it’s the perfect time to foster a pet.”

To become a foster pet parent, please complete this application and send it to ani.foster@lacity.org. LA Animal Services will provide you with the items you need, from a bed, crate, and toys, to ensure a happy and comfy sleepover for your canine foster companion.

Options to Surrendering a Pet

Our six shelters continue to operate at critical capacity. Please reconsider surrendering your pet to a shelter. LA Animal Services offers alternative solutions to help keep pets and families together, that include Safety Net Foster, Home to Home, Pet Food Pantry, and helpful resource guides. We also work closely with intervention groups who will provide assistance with pet retention. If relinquishing your pet is the only option, appointments are required by calling 888-452-7381. Sick or injured animals will be admitted without an appointment.
